When parents begin to rest in the true self, everything changes from the inside out. We focus less on what's wrong with our children, or their teachers, friends, grades, health, room, or whatever. Our primary focus becomes clear, to be right with ourselves. We look inward. We listen deeply to our own feelings and thoughts. We make space to feel without reacting. That inward focus helps us to get right with our kids. We listen to them. We listen to what they say at the surface, to their complaints and struggles, their excitement and silliness, to their stories and questions. And we also listen deeply to what's under the surface. The the feelings under the complaint. To the needs under their questions. We don't turn away from the hard things, wishing our kids could be happier or smarter or more disciplined. We show up--patient, clear, and willing. Is your focus inward or outward today?
