Love in Times of Conflict

When I have to set a hard limit as a parent, my emotional, mental, even physical stance tightens up. I'm learning that even as I say 'no,' I can be loving.

Some simple ways to do this:

• See the vulnerability in the child, even when they are doing something difficult.
• Water the seeds of love for them, intentionally thinking of who they really are, good moments you've shared.
• Seek connection and trust that it is there, even in the midst of disconnection.
• Explore any tendency in you to equate love with saying 'yes,' and find the love that is expressed in your 'no.'
• Visualize the best possible outcome, perhaps both of you smiling and hugging, your child as their best self, a peaceful home. . .
